10 FREE ACTIVE LIVING ACTIVITIES IN CAIRNS

Cairns offers a great variety of active living classes for all to enjoy. The Active Living Program consists of free fitness classes 6 days a week. The classes provide an introduction to the sport so are suitable for all levels of fitness and are run at numerous picturesque locations along the Esplanade. From Aqua Aerobics to Zumba Fitness there is something for everyone to try.

1. AQUA ZUMBA
Get wet and wild with aqua zumba in the Lagoon,
every Wednesday 5.30pm at the Lagoon Cairns

2. PILATES
Learn the basics of Pilates at the Fogarty Park soundshell at 6:30am on Thursday mornings. Please bring water, a towel and/or mat.

3. ZUMBA
Zumba classes feature exotic rhythms set to high energy Latin and international beats. Before you know it you are getting fit and energy levels are soaring. It is easy to do, effective and totally exhilarating.

4. BOULDERING
Bouldering is a form of rock climbing at low height. A minimal amount of equipment is required. Bouldering is a fun and safe introduction to rock climbing. Bouldering is suited to all levels of fitness and climbing experience. Over the sessions you will learn and develop skills to solve a range of climbing problems. Like any form of rock climbing it is good for the body, mind and soul. If you have climbing shoes, bring them along – Dunlop Volleys are a good alternative and of course sneakers are fine. Bring a water bottle and a towel.

5. BEACH VOLLEYBALL
Want to learn to play Beach Volleyball, increase your skills, or just want to have a fun hour of sport? Elite coaches Joel and Luke lead this weekly clinic. The session combines skill training and play with groupings for all skill levels. Come on down and bash a ball!

5.30pm Tuesday evenings.

6. AQUA AEROBICS
Aquatic exercise is a low impact, effective and fun way to get fit, burn calories, strengthen joints and bones and reduce stress. Aqua Aerobics increases general well-being with little or no impact and you don’t even have to be able to swim!

Saturday 9am at the Lagoon

7. CHI GONG AND YOGA
This Introductory class is a combination of Yoga and Tai Chi techniques. Learn the basics at Fogarty Park from 6:30am on Wednesday mornings.

8. SKATEBOARDING

Learn how to skateboard with the highly qualified ASF Skateboard Coaches. Learn the basics, improve your skills, land new tricks and have fun at the Skate Park! Some helmets and skateboards will be provided. Bring a friend or family member and make use of Cairns’ amazing Skate Park on The Esplanade.

9. FITNESS PLAYGROUND
This one hour class utilises the fantastic fitness stations spread out along the Esplanade to provide participants with an ‘all over’ body workout. The class is suitable for all fitness levels and abilities. The class consists of a series of timed circuits (e.g. 30 seconds on each machine/station) and once a station has been utilised, the group will jog/skip/hop/lunge/squat to the next lot of fitness stations.

10. MEDITATION
Enjoy the unique experience of Sahara Mediation on the esplanade every Saturday at 7.30am. Allow your kundalini energy to awaken with the rise of this meditation.
